A Timely Warning! Do remember that even if you have the freehold of your house you will still have to get permission from the Bournville Village Trust for things like extensions, changing your drive, erecting a greenhouse, putting in a new fence; unless it is a genuine like for like repair. This can increase the time your project takes, particularly in the summer when there is quite a big gap between Trustee's meetings. If requests for property approvals comply with the Design Guide, then they are approved by Officers reasonably quickly; only those outside the guide need to go to the Committee. There are other restrictions designed to maintain the appearance of the estate; e.g. no caravans in front gardens without permission, no satellite dishes on the front of houses. Most of us find these restrictions a nuisance at times but accept that they are worth it to preserve the estate. Reading the ‘Design Guide’ is essential!

Moving to Weoley Hill
You will find Weoley Hill a very pleasant and friendly place. It is conveniently placed for schools, the University and the local hospitals as well as the city centre. The 46 bus which winds its way through many estates as it goes from Turves Green in the south of the city to Perry Barr in the north gives freedom of movement to all members of the family. It connects Weoley Hill to Northfield, Weoley Castle, Selly Oak, the Selly Oak and Queen Elizabeth hospitals, the University and the city centre. The Bristol road buses are, of course, a faster way to many of these places for some residents. Members of the University have free travel on the 46 from Weoley Park Road to the halls of residence on Edgbaston Park Road.

Weoley Hill is situated SW of Birmingham City Centre to the west of the A38.
It is easily accessed by all forms of transport. From the SW leave the M5 at junction 4, from the North leave the M5 at junction 2 or the M6 at junction 6,(spaghetti junction). From London leave the M42 at junction 2 Follow signs for Cadbury World until you are fairly close.
Selly Oak and Bournville stations are served by local trains on the Cross City Line. University station is also served by a few long distance trains.
The postcode B29 4DE is central to Weoley Hill if you need one for mapping purposes.
The land by the stream that cuts Weoley Hill in two is called the Valley Parkway. This is maintained by The Bournville Village Trust for the benefit of all residents. Freeholders pay a maintenance charge that covers their share of the costs of amenities throughout the BVT area. The tenants share is included in their rent.
The village hall, cricket club, tennis club and bowls club are all on the parkway.
Our Facilities, links and oddments pages are collecting information about schools, churches, doctors, playgroups and the other things it takes time to find out when you are new to an area. These are gradually being transferred to relevant pages. The more general links will remain on the links page.
A tidier version of this map with the official OS acknowledgement will be be produced sometime!
Bournville was built as a ‘dry’ estate but it now allows alcohol in hotels, club houses etc, but the shops on the estate do not sell alcoholic drinks. There are pubs and shops very close to many edges of the estate.
The website of 'Our Lady & St. Rose of Lima' Weoley Castle, gives plenty of information about the church and its activities but also some information about its immediate area; it includes a picture of one of the pubs that were strategically built just outside the BVT area. It also has information about Weoley Castle Square shopping centre (actually a very large grass centred roundabout) and Weoley Castle, a ruined manor house.
